New Year's Rolling

No course but a really nice winter weekend for everyone who's crazy about rolling

Category: Everything that's about rolling

Dates:
03./04.01.2026, Lake Thun, Interlaken-Neuhaus

Cost: Price: 80 CHF

Our cozy winter get-together with lots of rolling, sauna and best food. This event is not a course, but a fantastic opportunity to practice, learn and have fun together. We will be rolling for two days in the cold, clear waters of Lake Thun. Whether you can do one roll or lots of rolls, this is a fantastic opportunity to get out and just do it, banish the winter blues and celebrate the New Year together.

If you ever get tired of rolling, you can warm up in the heated kitchen tent or in our tent sauna. Our party will then start in the evening at the latest, with delicious, hearty winter food and everything else that goes with a great evening.

Our New Year's rolling is limited to sixteen participants. Secure your place now!

This weekend is not a course, but a great opportunity to apply what you have learned so far - in cold water. Of course, this means that you should already be able to do at least one roll fairly confidently.

Otherwise, the usual applies: swimming skills and basic knowledge of sea kayaking - especially how to use the spray deck above and below water.

Time schedule
We'll meet on Saturday on the beach at the Neuhaus campsite on Lake Thun. If you want to come before 12pm, you're welcome to help us set up the sauna and kitchen tent.

Saturday schedule:

Between 12pm and 1pm: Arrival, there's punch and stew for lunch

From 1pm until dusk: Rolling near the beach

From 2pm: The sauna is on!

At around 4.15pm: Who can do the torch roll? Fire meets ice:-)

From 4.30pm fire, mulled wine and aperitif

Approx. 7pm: dinner

Sunday schedule:

From 8.30am, swim in the lake and sauna for all early birds

9.30am breakfast

... the day is still young: roll, sauna, coffee, or everything in reverse order....
Course location and meeting point

3th/4th January:

Interlaken-Neuhaus
Camping MANOR FARM 1
Seestrasse 201
3800 Interlaken-Thunersee

We set up camp for the weekend down by the lake, as close to the water as possible. Reservations on the camping for less than week are not possible, so surprises are to be expected. Getting a spot has so far never been a problem this time of year, though.
Bring along

Don't forget:
Large towel
Towel for the sauna
Warm clothes for outside and warm clothes for sleeping
Camping chair (!)
Cup, plate, cutlery

Paddling clothing:
Very warm paddling clothing: dry suit (!!!) plus warm thermal underwear or fleece insulation layer. Neoprene is NOT sufficient.
A tuilik is also a good idea.
Paddle and kayak (can be rented)
Swimwear. (Of course we go swimming too!)
Nose clip
Important: earplugs (!) and/or neoprene cap
Diving or swimming goggles (optional)

You don't need to bring any food this weekend, as we're having another camping get-together. We'll take care of the planning and shopping, and as always, not will all be settled with a group kitty. Expect to chip in around 50 CHF.

Renting kayak and equipment
It is possible to rent a kayak and/or drysuit from us for the duration of the course.

Prices:
Single day: 60 CHF
Weekend: 100 CHF
Three days: 120 CHF

These prices are for one kayak or drysuit each. If you rent both, you have to pay for both.

You can rent a Greenland paddle, wetsuit, neoprene shoes, paddling jacket and buoyancy aid from us free of charge if you order in advance. All participants will receive a link to our online material order form in good time before the course begins.
Attention when planning a change of waters: Stop Quagga!
The invasive and rapidly spreading quagga mussel threatens our lakes and infrastructure. This problem also affects us paddlers. Therefore, EVERY time you change waters, clean and dry your kayak and your equipment!

  • Remove visible plant material such as mud and residual water from the source water.
  • Then clean your kayak thoroughly with fresh water. Ideally with a high-pressure cleaner and water with a temperature of over 45 degrees. Make sure that the dirty water does not get into other waters.
  • Then dry your equipment and your kayak for at least four days.
