Single Day Course for those who want to master the beautiful storm roll

This course is all about one thing: the Storm Roll – the beautiful, efficient, flat forward low-brace roll of the Greenlanders. That pretty much says it all. Everyone wants to learn it – this is your chance!

You can book this course as a single day or as a package with the Reverse Sweep Roll as a "Forward Finishing Rolls Weekend" and save money.

This is an intermediate rolling course. This means you should already have a somewhat working roll in your repertoire. Ideally, this is the Greenland Standard Roll.

Otherwise, the usual applies: swimming skills and basic knowledge of sea kayaking – especially how to use the spray deck above and below water.

Course content
As described above – today we learn the storm roll or refine it and build on it. As always, we first take a close look at the movement sequences on dry land. We then practice in the water, first with an extended paddle, then with a normal grip in the middle of the paddle. Rolling with the shorter storm paddle, which is always held extended, is also worth a try!

And for everyone who can do this really well already, we look individually at what the next steps could be: Do both sides work equally well? Does it work with crossed hands? Are we perfecting the leg work, which always makes sense considering the days ahead?
Time schedule
We will meet at 9:30 at the course location specified below (see “Course location and meeting point”).

First we introduce each other and talk about our goals for the day. We distribute any ordered equipment and kayaks and change clothes. Afterwards there is an extensive round of stretching and warming up before we go ashore for the first exercises.

We take a lunch break at around 13:00.

After that we continue training.

Course ends at 16:30.

Bring along

Large towel and/or yoga mat
Warm paddling clothing: neoprene, fleece, paddling jacket or drysuit plus thermal underwear
Buoyancy aid*
Paddle and kayak (can be rented)
swimwear
Nose clip
Important: earplugs (!) and/or neoprene hood
Diving or swimming goggles (optional)
Lunch and drinks

* Most of our rolling courses, but especially all beginner courses, take place in shallow water, which is why we usually do not wear a buoyancy aid if possible. This makes the movement a little easier. But it is also possible that we want or need to paddle a bit in between, which is why it is important that you have a buoyancy aid with you.

Renting kayak and equipment
It is possible to rent a kayak and/or drysuit from us for the duration of the course.

Prices:
Single day: 60 CHF
Weekend: 100 CHF
Three days: 120 CHF

These prices are for one kayak or drysuit each. If you rent both, you have to pay for both.

You can rent a Greenland paddle, wetsuit, neoprene shoes, paddling jacket and buoyancy aid from us free of charge if you order in advance. All participants will receive a link to our online material order form in good time before the course begins.
Attention when planning a change of waters: Stop Quagga!
The invasive and rapidly spreading quagga mussel threatens our lakes and infrastructure. This problem also affects us paddlers. Therefore, EVERY time you change waters, clean and dry your kayak and your equipment!

  • Remove visible plant material such as mud and residual water from the source water.
  • Then clean your kayak thoroughly with fresh water. Ideally with a high-pressure cleaner and water with a temperature of over 45 degrees. Make sure that the dirty water does not get into other waters.
  • Then dry your equipment and your kayak for at least four days.
