Kayak, Paddle, Drysuit:

We Repair it!

OUR WORKSHOP

Many years of experience at sea and a love of beautiful kayaks and well-maintained material have also made us experts in repairing boats and equipment. Over time, we have seen practically every imaginable type of material damage and know that there is almost nothing that we cannot professionally repair, adjust or "tune". We are against wasting resources and want to use our repair service to help ensure that less is thrown away and that more material can be used sensibly and with joy for as long as possible. If you have damage to your kayak or material that is worrying you, talk to us. The same applies if you want to individually modify or adjust something on your sea kayak.

Our Expertise: Some Examples

  • Repairing composite boats (fiberglass, Kevlar-carbon, etc.). Regardless of whether it is a more "cosmetic" treatment such as repairing and polishing scratches, minor gelcoat damage or a substantial repair: we will make your sea kayak seaworthy, strong, watertight and beautiful again.
  • Tuning and individual modifications - depending on your wishes and the order. For example, moving footrests and bulkheads, modifying thigh braces, replacing and reinforcing seam tape, installing a keel protection strip, installing fittings and padding... the list of possibilities is long!
  • Seat systems: restoring broken seat shells, wobbly suspensions or chafing under the seat. Replacing back straps.
  • Sealing leaky hatches, bulkheads, skeg sliders and skeg boxes
  • Repairing skegs and rudders
  • Mending drysuits and other paddling clothing
  • Replacing latex cuffs
  • Repairing and maintaining paddles

KAYAK REPAIR

All Composite Sea Kayaks

Individual Appointment on Request

Cost: 80 CHF/h + material costs

In principle, you can repair a laminated sea kayak indefinitely. Or modify it to suit your individual wishes and requirements. Whether you have a long tear or a hole in the bottom of the boat, whether the seam tape and the upper deck are coming away from the hull, or you want to position your bulkhead individually: all of this can be done. And of course also "smaller" things, such as skeg repairs, etc. Every boat, every case of damage and every job is different and requires its own solution. But one thing always applies: With us, your sea kayak is in the best hands. Contact us and send us a detailed description of your "case" and attach photos if possible. We will then discuss the procedure and give you a cost estimate. If you agree, we will arrange an appointment and you bring your kayak to our workshop in the Bern or Aargau region. We will give you the address individually.
Be Aware of the Season
A certain minimum temperature is required for successful GRP repairs. Anything below 10°C is critical. Since our current standard workshop has no heating, we may have to use heated rooms in the depths of winter, for which we have to pay a small extra amount, which we will then charge you. We will discuss this with you before we finalize anything.
Special case: PE boats
Plastic (PE) kayaks are incredibly robust, but they are all the more difficult to repair if they do break. We can happily try to weld a PE kayak for you, but we cannot guarantee whether the repair will be successful or permanent. Welded PE kayaks usually break at the seam sooner or later. In such a case, you will have little choice but to dispose of the kayak.

DRYSUIT SERVICE

Get your drysuit dry again!

Individual appointment on request

Allgemeine Reparaturen

A dry suit is expensive. To extend its lifespan, it is worth looking after it and caring for it well. Sooner or later, however, every dry suit will start to leak. We look for and seal holes and tears, seal large critical areas (buttocks, knees, etc.), and impregnate and replace sealing tape that is coming loose.

Cost: 80 CHF/h + material cost + postage

Changing latex cuffs/colars

Latex cuffs are wear parts and become old and brittle over time – especially if they come into frequent contact with UV or sun cream, both of which are unfortunately difficult to avoid in practice. Therefore, they have to be replaced from time to time. If that is too complicated or time-consuming for you, we will be happy to do it for you – quickly, cleanly, reliably and at a fixed price.

Changing one cuff/colar: 80 CHF fixed price + material cost + postage

Changing all cuffs plus colar: 160 CHF fixed price + material cost + postage

IMPORTANT:Before you send us your drysuit:
Please always contact us before sending us a drysuit for service! We are primarily guides and coaches and are therefore on the road a lot. We can only do our workshop work in the "in-between times". So we always have to make an appointment first. It is also important that you describe the problem to us as precisely as possible and tell us which areas are most likely to get wet.
What we CANNOT do
Fabric:
We do not have a pressure test facility. Therefore, despite our careful work, we cannot guarantee that your dry suit will be completely tight afterwards. This is particularly the case if the suit is already old and the membrane has been subjected to high stress for a long time. Sometimes things are simply broken or a case for the manufacturer to overhaul them.

Latex cuffs:
No cuff is completely tight! In particular, people with tendons often experience water getting in through the arm cuffs when rolling (etc.). This is usually because when making a fist, "tunnels" form between the tendons in the pulse area, through which the water can shoot through unhindered. No cuff in the world can prevent this 100%. Similar phenomena can also occur on the neck, depending on the movement of the head.

Zippers, socks and neoprene cuffs:
Unfortunately, we cannot replace waterproof zippers, booties and neoprene cuffs. In such cases, please contact the manufacturer of your dry suit.

Diving dry suits etc.:
We only repair dry suits that are specifically made for paddling and are classified as "Surface Immersion Suits".
Material and postage
Material:
We only use high-quality latex cuffs from the market leader Kokatat and Aquasure glue.

Postage:
We charge a flat rate of 12 CHF for postage (B-Post) and packaging. We only ship to addresses in Switzerland.
